A truly outstanding early 20th century Ame ri can Folk Art, New England primitive vintage sporting duck decoy in the sleeping position. Only the lead weight ballast once found on the underside of the decoy was previously at some point removed, possibly so the duck would sit upright and flat on a surface such as a fireplace mantle, bookcase shelf or chest of drawers for display.
Its tether eye hook fastener, also once found on the baseplate, was as well, previously removed, more than likely for the same reason. The white cedar, solid body wooden duck decoy is hand carved and hand painted. Of note, would also be the untouched original painted surfaces and the early, hand craved, raised and golden orange enamel painted eyes. A deep burgundy hood depicts the Red Head North Ame ri can duck with a charcoal black beak. Its body is comprised of a white painted chest, a pewter gray body and white and charcoal black striped wing feathers. The duck is in the sleeping position or in repose, with its beak submerged in the plumage of its back. Good to Very Good overall vintage condition. This item is in the category "Sporting Goods\Hunting\Vintage Hunting\Duck Decoys". The seller is "modsanctuary" and is located in this country: US.
